Meter upgrades cause temporary billing estimates

Krugersdorp residents may see estimated electricity charges as the municipality upgrades meters and updates account data.

The municipality is in the process of replacing bulk electricity meters, which may result in residents’ meter readings not immediately appearing on their accounts.

According to Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) assistant manager for media and PR, Refilwe Mahlangu, the meter replacements are part of an effort to upgrade infrastructure and improve systems.

“During this transition, actual meter readings may not immediately reflect on customer accounts. As a result, estimated readings will temporarily be used to ensure the billing process continues without interruption,” she explained.

With a large number of meters being replaced, the municipality may need additional time to consolidate, verify, and update all customer accounts in the billing system.

“Once this process is complete, all accounts will be adjusted accordingly, and any over- or under-billing will be corrected on subsequent statements,” she added.
