Curamus School fundraiser promotes inclusion while raising funds
Curamus School for Autism learners shadow waiters while raising vital funds and promoting inclusion.
The community came together recently to support the Curamus School for Autism during its termly fundraiser.
Ten per cent of all spending that evening was donated to the school, and learners also took part by shadowing waiters at a local restaurant.
Organiser Ansa Kotzé explained that the fundraiser aimed not only to raise essential funds but also to promote awareness and acceptance of autism.
“We want people to see our learners’ abilities and not their disabilities,” she said.

The school hosts the fundraiser at least three times a year, with the next event scheduled for the second term. Updates and information will be shared via social media.
Funds raised help support initiatives such as the school’s feeding scheme and may contribute towards school governing body (SGB) salaries, Ansa added.

She said one of the most rewarding moments of the evening was seeing learners step out of their comfort zones and fully enjoy the event.
“Please support our fundraising events. Not only are you helping our school, but you also have the privilege of meeting some of the most incredible learners we absolutely love and admire. Thank you to everyone who supports our school. You are truly appreciated,” she concluded.
