Paardekraal Primary bids farewell to beloved teachers

Learners and staff pay heartfelt tributes as their beloved principal and veteran teachers at Paardekraal Primary retire after decades of shaping young lives.

Paardekraal Primary School bid farewell to long-serving staff members in an emotional assembly, during which principal Hennie Bester made his final appearance before retiring after more than a decade of service at the school.

Reflecting on his time at Paardekraal, Hennie said he will miss the classroom mischief, long parent meetings and the memorable school activities that have been part of the school’s life. He was first appointed as principal in 2011, following a long tenure at Silverfields Primary School.

Prefects Oratile Mokgoshing and Mamello Nko expressed their gratitude for his guidance and the significant void his departure will leave.

“He was not just a teacher; he was a parent away from home and, most importantly, a protector. It is especially bittersweet as this is our final year in primary school. In a way, it feels like moving away from home as we are also growing up,” they said.

Other long-serving staff members included Sari Galloway and deputy principal *Lizette van der Merwe, who have both contributed more than 30 years of service, making a lasting impact on the lives of learners.

“Mrs Galloway and *Mrs van der Merwe always ensured we reached our full potential. They were strict but fair, and most importantly, they taught us to be good people both inside and outside the school,” Oratile added.

An emotional Hennie confirmed that leaving will not be easy, but he will forever cherish the memories and the excellence the school has achieved over the years.
