Karli, Curro’s own Karate Kid
A Curro learner is inspiring others at just nine years old with her dedication, skill, and national recognition in karate.
At just nine years old, Karli Labram, a Grade Three learner at Curro Krugersdorp Primary School, is already making a name for herself in karate.
Since joining the Roodepoort Karate Centre in February last year, she has demonstrated remarkable talent and dedication, earning several accolades along the way.
For starters, she competed at the Gauteng Karate Provincial championship, where she qualified to represent her region at the South African Japan Karate Association (SAJKA) National Championships held at Ellis Park earlier this year. There, Karli delivered an outstanding performance, earning her national colours for both kata and kumite – said to be a prestigious achievement for any athlete, let alone one so young.
According to her mother, Jennifer, despite her small stature, Karli delivers karate kicks that are both powerful and precise.
“She trains with passion and persistence, often practising at home, in public, and even while sitting down, much to the delight of those around her,” Jennifer said.
She added, “Karli always shows up with a smile on her face and gives it everything she’s got. We’re incredibly proud of her and all that she’s achieved.”
For the family, Karli’s journey is a testament to the power of hard work, heart and a positive attitude.
“With her national colours now under her belt, she’s an inspiration to her peers and a rising star to watch,” Jennifer concluded.
