I recently bought two mincemeat packs from the same butcher, on the same day. One was a low-fat mince and the other was regular mince.
The packets looked almost identical in quality and colour. They looked like mince should look. My wife froze both, to use later.
About two weeks later we needed both, and defrosted them in hot water. We were horrified to discover the regular mince had lost its colour.
When we approached a meat expert with the attached image, he said the regular mince was almost pure fat.
The butcher said that a technical error must have crept in. He was friendly, but not at all apologetic. He swapped the regular mince for low-fat upon my request.
My concern is that, if the public can be fooled so easily, we all may have poor quality mince in our freezers.
If the butcher is fraudulent with his mince, he likely also will cheat with his wors and with the hamburger patties he sells!
