Good luck to Mogale’s matrics

De Waal Venter, DA Mogale City spokesperson writes:

The Democratic Alliance Mogale City Caucus would like to wish all matriculants in the Mogale City region all the best for the upcoming National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams.

Census 2011 stats for Mogale City show that the unemployment rate of youth aged between 15-34 stands at 32,3 per cent. Only 32 per cent of people in the area also have matric, while only 14 per cent have a tertiary qualification.

Education provides the best opportunity for people to lift themselves out of poverty.

It empowers them to find a job or start their own business, which in turn creates employment opportunities in their community.

This is why where the DA governs, we have prioritised the delivery of quality education.

We have seen the positive results of our education interventions in the Western Cape since taking over the provincial government in 2009.

The 2014 NSC exam results revealed that just over 82 per cent of candidates who wrote the exams passed. The Western Cape achieved the highest percentage of candidates qualifying for Bachelor degree studies and has the highest retention rate in the country, with 64 per cent of Grade 10s progressing to Grade 12 and writing the final exams.

The DA acknowledges the hard work of many principals and teachers who are committed to improving the quality of education in Mogale City. We also want to thank all those parents who have taken an interest in their children’s education and providing them with the support they need to pass matric.

The DA believes that we all share an equal responsibility when it comes to ensuring our children receive the education they need to succeed in life.

We believe that by working together, we can bring change to Mogale City. Change that stops corruption and starts service delivery.

The DA therefore encourages young people in Mogale City to register for the upcoming Local Government Elections in 2016.
