• Pastor Gerrit Mes of the AFM Pentecostal Fellowship writes:
They say the road to hell is paved with good intentions. January and February every year the gym is full. January and February often churches are full.
People start the year with good intentions but very few are able to get to November and December doing what they intended to do in the beginning of the year.
Those that succeed have something in common. They develop a routine. At first it takes a lot of effort. But very quickly it becomes a way of life. Jesus had routines. He started his days early and alone. It was his routine. Quote, “As was his practice”, the Bible says. The second step is lots of self-discipline. Without self-discipline very little of value in life is achieved. People with no self-discipline seldom achieve anything of significance.
Finally, if you develop strong routine and have lots of self-discipline, you get to step 3, rewards. For a runner it is the completion of a race. For the worker, it is the satisfaction of a job well done.
For a student it is a report card with good marks.
One day when you and I die, it will not be what intended to do that will be remembered.
Routine, discipline and rewards are steps to success.
