More than just a rugby game
Khosa Junior Rugby Club's vision is to ensure high-standard coaching and that the game is played in an enjoyable manner.
To give young players under the age of 18 years high-standard coaching is Khosa Junior Rugby Club management’s vision.
The club was founded by former teachers, provincial players and provincial coaches to provide junior players with potential the opportunity to improve their skills and to get individual coaching in the sporting environment.
Coach John Smith says children are the lifeblood of the game and it is therefore important for them to make sure the young players are cared for properly.
“As the children get older and improve their skills they can move towards the more competitive seven- or 15-a-side forms of the game. There is no limit as to how far children can go but the foundations are crucial, which is where Khosa Junior Rugby comes in.”
He says the enjoyment, safety and education of children in rugby are vital to the sustainability of the game.
“Khosa aims to partner with all schools in the West Rand feeding area to develop their players throughout the year and equip them with the skills to excel in rugby or just to enjoy playing the game,” says Smith.
The coaches, assistant coaches and managers are BokSmart accredited.
“The primary aim of BokSmart is to provide rugby coaches, referees, players and administrators with the relevant knowledge, skills and leadership abilities to ensure that safety and best-practice principles are incorporated into all aspects of contact rugby.”
Khosa will offer the players the opportunity to take part in a Golden Lions Rugby Union (GLRU) league and competitions.
Training is from 5.30pm to 7pm on Fridays.
