Fun-filled hockey open day
The PSI West Rand Rhinos had their open day where parents and children had the opportunity to play against each other.
The PSI West Rand Rhinos are on the rise.
They recently had their second indoor hockey open day at their venue in Sterkfontein where children interested in the sport had the opportunity to come on board by registering.
Yvette Peens, director of the PSI West Rand Rhinos says about 20 children registered on the day and she expects that this number will increase.
“We, the children and the parents are excited!” says Peens.

“The West Rand never has had an indoor hockey arena before and therefore many children never had the opportunity to play in such an environment. The parents of many of the other children no longer had the time and money to take them to the indoor hockey arenas far from where they live.”
The open day saw some exciting hockey action between the parents and children as they battled it out in the arena that echoed with laughs and screams of joy.

To replenish the energy lost in the arena a fire was lit, and parents and children had the opportunity to socialise and braai.
“It was really a great afternoon of fun,” says Peens.
She says the Rhinos are ready for the next school term as they will be preparing the players for the intercity and national teams.
The trials for the intercity games will be taking place on 29 and 30 July from 6pm.
“We have an exciting term ahead as we also will be playing against schools such as Hoërskool Monument, Hoërskool Noordheuwel and St Ursula’s, who came on board with us as a way to prepare the children.”
