Sport ambassador donates soccer kit
“This school is doing well in sports and I’m doing this so they can continue to involve our children in sports."
Entuthukweni Primary School in Kagiso became the latest beneficiary of sports apparel donated by a good Samaritan.
The school is in a tightly knit community adjacent to Khaselihle school. They received a full soccer kit, four soccer balls and squeeze bottles from local resident Gcina Mfazwe.
Gcina, an employee of SA Breweries in Chamdor and also ambassador of the SAB Soccer League on the West Rand, donated the apparel in the presence of the pupils and the Mogale City Local Football Association officials.
Better known as Council in soccer circles for his mercurial skills, Gcina said he was motivated by the late Nelson Mandela’s sprit of Ubuntu.
“As a resident of Kagiso and a former soccer player, I’m humbled to have done this for the school and also looking forward to extend this noble project to other schools in our area,” he said.
“I’m motivated by the spirit of the late statesman utata Mandela. He was so forgiving, humble and willing to extend his hand of goodwill through the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund. As a nation we need to keep up his legacy, hence, I decided to focus on pupils and schools,” he said.
“This school is doing well in sports and I’m doing this so they can continue to involve our children in sports and move them away from wrong things that are happening in our communities,” he added.
The school principal Lester Kekana was equally happy and said, “I’m happy for my pupils and we want to thank the donor for having our school on his list of priorities. It means other people in our township are willing to plough back into their communities and extend a helping hand.”
Gcina and Lester were teammates at Executive Spinners, one of the best and disciplined soccer teams Mogale City has ever had. The team has produced countless school teachers and principals as well as business people of good standing.
