Ross plays ice hockey like a pro

An ice hockey tournament was held to raise funds for motor neuron disease sufferes.

As if ice skating is not difficult enough, this young Grade 5 Maragon pupil plays on the ice with his fellow ice hockey team mates.

Ross Theron, a pupil at Maragon Private Schools, plays ice hockey for the Northgate Grizzlies, among other sports.

The Northgate Grizzlies played against the Forest Rats at Forest Hill in a tournament on 24 May to raise funds for motor neuron disease sufferers.

Joost van der Westhuizen and his family also joined in the festivities as his son plays for the same team as Ross.

It was a successful event as Ross’ team not only won the match but also won the tournament with a cumulative score of 3-2.

Young Ross was named man of the match for the entire duration of the tournament and was interviewed by the media.

This is a huge achievement considering the players’ ages range from six to 46.

The tournament also caught the attention of You/ Huisgenoot magazine. They had a journalist and film crew in the stands covering it as well as the fundraising initiative.

“Now Ross is looking forward to playing his first D12 hockey match (district and provincial hockey) as the youngest player on the team at Queens High School this weekend (end of May),” commented Belinda Espag, marketing manager of Maragon.
