Kicking herself into national team

Megan Jacobs Maragon's karate kid.

Maragon Avianto is very proud to announce that their very own Megan Jacobs was selected to represent the school in the SA Karate Squad in 2016.

“I used to see the children in their uniforms walking past our house to the dojo down the street and I also wanted to join and wear the white uniform. So I started karate when I was in Grade 2 at the age of seven,” Megan said.

The Grade 10 pupil also trained in the United Arab Emirates under Sensei Fayad Hameed in Oriental Karate for two years

After relocating back she continued to train under Sensei Johan Roets for two years and later joined Sensei Karien Jacobsz in Centurion.

“We trained twice a week for an hour and also attend some Saturday training sessions,” said the dedicated student.

At the Gauteng North Provincial Tournament held earlier this year in Pretoria, Megan placed first for both Kata and Kumite for girl’s age between 14 and 15 in the brown/ black belt division.

Later at the nationals in Durban she placed second in Kata.

“This is a great opportunity for me, one that I’ve been training for all this time, and I’m overwhelmed and grateful for this opportunity. My whole family supports me and my twin sister, Abigail, treats all my bruises after a competition,” Megan concluded.
