[PHOTOS] A dozen Sanesa medals nabbed

Riders from the Western Riding Academy won 12 medals at the primary school level Sanesa qualifiers in April.

Young Krugersdorp equestrians pocketed 12 medals at the Sanesa second-round qualifier recently.

On Sunday 24 April, primary school level riders and their horses from across Gauteng West and North West competed in the second round of the South African National Equestrian Schools Association (Sanesa) Western Riding Qualifier.

The competition took place at Misty Meadows Equestrian Centre in Pretoria.

“Six young riders and their horses from Western Riding Academy in Sterkfontein returned with a total of seven first places, two second places and three third places.

“Riders entered the Western Performance classes which include Trail, Horsemanship, Pleasure, Dressage and Reining,” Yolanda Steyn, the academy co-owner said.

Dane Steyn, 12 from Laerskool Krugersdorp-Noord, and her two horses, Doney Dash and Amigo, won four first places and two second places.

Eight-year-old Keila Schutte-Hanekom from Curro Krugersdorp swept up three first places on her horse Mountneys Kiss Me in the level two Trail, Horsemanship and Reining classes.

“In the Western Pleasure class at level two, Michelle Gouws, 13 from Monument Primary placed second for showing the judges that her horse Voodoo has effortless movement and charming behaviour,” she said.

Lianè Brits, 10, also from Curro Krugersdorp, demonstrated her level two Trail and Reigning class skills on her horse Stetson Blue and placed third in both categories. Kyra Cronje from Alma Mater Akademie took third place in the level two Horsemanship class with her horse, Sylvestor.

“Another one of our talented riders, Mischa Rothman, rode in the Pleasure, Horsemanship and Reining classes on her horse Maximillion at level two and placed well among the other competitors,” Yolanda added.

The next primary school level Sanesa Qualifier will be held at Maple Ridge Equestrian Farm on Saturday, 30 July.
