Judo champs bring home the medals
Medals galore for the KJK Club, which took part in recent championship events.
The KJK Judo Club can boast with the numerous sporting achievements and various medals it won at a recent championships.
Brothers Louis and Willem Truter, who were selected to represent South Africa at the Senior African Kata Championships held in Tunisia in April, achieved a third place and won a bronze medal for their Katame No Kata.
Several other judokas represented the club at the Judo South Africa championships held in Port Elizabeth in April, where Chris Pietersen and Dewald Schultz won gold medals in their age and weight categories, while Harm Venter, Ferdinand van den Heever and Eugene Delport won bronze medals.
Students from the club also recently represented the West Rand Judo Association at the SA Judo Championships, held at Carnival City in June.
The results were as follows:
• Gold medals: Keenan May, Darian May, Harm Venter, Chris Pietersen, Carla Venter
• Silver medals: Tian Vorster, Shawwal Bagaria, Morné Venter, Dewald Schultz, Kyeren Bartman, Aiden Cronje, Tyla Stacey-Hale and Addi Barnard
• Bronze medals: Stephanie van der Riet, Gerhard Schultz, Willem Truter, Ruhan Terblanche and Lukas Barnard
Kata achievements:
• Gold medals: Harm Venter and Gerhard Schultz – three medals each. Louw Schultz, Willem Truter, Raydon Diab and Garren Diab – two medals each, and Raydon Diab, Dewald Schultz, Shawwal Bagaria and Jared Cronje – one medal each
• Silver medals: Raydon Diab, Dewald Schultz, Louw Schultz , Gerhard Schultz, Harm Venter, Willem Truter, Kyle Wolter and Ruhan Terblanche
• Bronze medals: Darian May, Keenan May, Ferdinand van den Heever, Ruan Delport, Tyla Stacey-Hale, Aiden Stacey-Hale, Dewald Schultz and Moagi Molefe
“A huge congratulations to the Kata pair of Harm Venter and Gerhard Schultz, who won the Group 6 category for both Katame and Kime no Kata, at the SA Open Judo Championships. The event also serves as trials and they have qualified to represent South African at the Senior African Kata Championships of 2017,” Katja Bruwer said.
