Florida edges Bastion for Pool A title
In what was Florida's toughest game yet, they just managed to edge Bastion out by 24–22.
Hoërskool Florida was faced with a rejuvenated Hoërskool Bastion side who were out for revenge, aiming to overturn the previous 37–7 loss to Florida earlier in the series.
Many had picked Florida for the win, but Bastion had seriously different ideas, as they dominated the opening exchanges and took the lead with the first try of the game, which was duly converted. Florida seemed out of sorts in the first half, as they struggled to get possession and struggled even more to keep it when they had it.
They slowly found their feet however, and with less than 10 minutes left in the half, managed to level up the score at 7–7.
If the first half was anything to go by, the second half looked set to be extremely tight as the teams could not be separated.
The second half lived up to the first, as it turned out to be one of the games of the tournament (if not the game of the tournament), as the game ebbed and flowed back and forth with Florida and Bastion sharing periods of dominance.
Despite the fight and desire from Bastion, the skill displayed by Florida managed to narrowly edge the Krugersdorp boys out by 24–22. This saw Florida crowned as the winners of Pool A of the Apcan School Rugby Series, with Bastion taking home a hard-fought second place.
