KHS takes top sport award home

Krugersdorp High School (KHS) recently received the highly coveted award for the 2018 Secondary Sports School of the Year.

Krugersdorp High School (KHS) was one of the nominees for the Secondary Sport School of the Year Award, and its principal, Ivan Bailey, and deputy principal, Pieter Coetzee, attended the awards ceremony held on Wednesday, 6 March. They were overjoyed when the final announcement was made.

The school had to meet a few specific requirements to be eligible for the reward, such as, the promotion of social cohesion and mass participation, community involvement, and some key sports achievements.

Some of the achievements that got KHS the nomination were being crowned the winners of the C League, 24 athletes qualifying for Prestige athletics, the second boys hockey team winning the D2 District League, the U/15 boys hockey team placing second and third in the West Rand league and the Boden Tournament respectively, netball teams winning the Johannesburg and Mogale league, tennis teams being the overall winners of their league and the school competing in the volleyball Inter-Provincial Tournament.

The school has also hosted the district championships and inter-provincial tournaments for hockey, the developmental rugby and cricket clinics, the Integrated Artistic Acrobatic Association of South Africa championships, the Best of the West junior and senior netball and hockey, and the T20 Cricket tournament, which had over 2 500 learners participating.
