KHS is making a splash with their swimming and girls rugby teams

Krugersdorp High School has a mentallity of 'all sports go', resulting in the school offering all kinds of interesting sports that are rarely on offer in most high schools.

Few high schools offer their girls the opportunity to get down in the ruck, make the tackle and go for the try. Krugersdorp High School’s (KHS) girls rugby programme aims to be the top of its kind, not just on the West Rand, but in the country. On top of that, and between the many alternative sports the school is currently offering, the mostly girls swimming team is also making waves.

Early in March, the rugby girls played their first games of the season. The U/16 KHS Blue team faced off against a rugby club team from Naledi and won with a score of 10–0. The U/16 White team won with a score of 20–5 against the Protea Glen girls team.

KHS’ first team walked away with an astonishing win of 73–0, also against Naledi. Mphumelelo Dlamini racked up five tries during the game, with Relebogile Motlhabane also impressing the crowd with four conversions.

Much of the teams’ success is owed to their skilled coaches.

As for the swimmers, the team came in second at the annual inter-high gala, earning them a spot in the Prestige Gala on 5 March. KHS is building up a strong swimming team and will participate in many events throughout the year, against the toughest opponents in South Africa’s schools.
