Summit Gymnasts tumble into nationals after provincial glory

Krugersdorp’s Summit Gymnastics Club is sending top-performing gymnasts and tumblers to nationals after multiple medal victories at provincials.

Summit Gymnastics Club’s gymnasts flipped, tumbled and are now heading to nationals.

Owner and coach Lauren Smith said their gymnasts first competed at the district competition, where they qualified for provincials. Following their success there, they were selected to represent Gauteng at the national competition.

At provincials, the gymnasts achieved the following in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG):

• Jaans Kok (Level 4): Bronze for parallel bars, silver for floor and vault
• Tenieke Malan (Level 4): Gold on vault
• Kristen Krog (Level 4): Silver on beam
• Mia Lynn (Level 5): Bronze on beam
• Elonay Pretorius (Level 5): Gold on floor; bronze on beam

The tumblers achieved the following at provincials:

• Jaans Kok (Level 5): Gold – provincial champion
• Elonay Pretorius (Level 7): Gold – provincial champion
• Bailey Wagner (Level 9): Gold – provincial champion
• Eliska Geldenhuys (Level 4): Gold – provincial champion
• Tenieke Malan (Level 6): Gold – provincial champion
• Mia van Zyl (Level 6): Silver

For WAG, the girls will be competing against over 30 competitors in each group, and we are very proud and excited,” Lauren said.

In conclusion, Summit Gymnastics Club will be sending eight girls for WAG, one boy for MAG and nine tumblers to nationals, which will take place in Gqeberha from October 2 to 12.
