KBC crowned champions in first-ever Sables Quadrangular
The inaugural event proved that bowls is as much about community as it is about competition.
Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) recently hosted its first-ever Quadrangular tournament for the Sables district.
According to KBC spokesperson David Parker, the Sables Bowling Association is one of the smallest districts in South Africa, with only 10 clubs and just under 1 000 members. He said that based in the West Rand, the district also includes one club from the North West Province, namely Rustenburg Bowling Club.
Sables provides opportunities for new, disabled and youth bowlers to learn or improve their skills through qualified coaching.

“The tournament aimed to give players a chance to compete against bowlers from other clubs they may not have faced before, despite being in the same district. Clubs such as Leases, Discovery and Honeydew Bowling Clubs were among those competing at KBC,” Parker said.
He added that the games were played in a friendly yet competitive spirit. Matches were closely contested, with only a three-shot difference separating the top teams. The final standings saw KBC finish first, followed by Leases, Discovery and Honeydew.

Tournament organiser Patrick Steinhobel noted that an Irish restaurant was among the sponsors that contributed to the event’s success.
He further expressed hope that more tournaments like this will be hosted in future to bring together even more members across the Sables district.
