Mini Me Athletics Day brings big smiles to Curro
Record attendance at Curro Krugersdorp made this year’s Mini Me Athletics Day one to remember.
Curro Krugersdorp Primary School recently hosted its annual athletics day for their youngest demographic, which was a vibrant celebration of family fun and athletics for children.
According to Curro’s head of marketing, Dibuseng Maboya, this year’s event delivered all that and more, with record attendance, friendly competition and unforgettable moments shared throughout the day.
From the moment families arrived, the atmosphere was filled with colour and excitement. The field echoed with the sound of little feet racing from one activity to the next.
“Our little athletes took part in hurdles, sprints, javelin, potato sack races and other playful challenges with a mix of determination and pure joy. Their carefree laughter reminded everyone why this tradition remains one of the most anticipated events on the school calendar,” Dibuseng said.

She added that the fun was not limited to the children. A crowd favourite was the parents’ and grandparents’ race, where adults took to the track for their own spirited sprint. What started as a friendly challenge quickly turned into a highlight of the day, with loud cheers from the crowd.
“Some participants were competitive, others more comedic, but all showed great enthusiasm as they dashed across the field with surprising speed and big smiles. The race brought some of the loudest laughter of the day and reflected the warm, family-centred spirit of the event,” Dibuseng added.
Helena Hern Jansen van Vuuren, head of the preschool, expressed her appreciation for the strong support.
“The turnout this year was massive. We thank the parents for supporting the little ones,” she said.

She also extended her heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff and families who helped make the day a success. Their energy and involvement continue to elevate this annual tradition into something truly special each year.
“With laughter echoing across the field and memories made in every race, this year’s Mini Me Athletics once again reminded us why it remains a highlight of the Curro calendar – a day of fun, family and unstoppable little champions,” Helena concluded.
