Phalaborwa's Sealene Ladies FC is gaining national recognition in the Sasol League, empowering young women in football.
LIMPOPO – Sealene Ladies Football Club, a rising force in the Sasol League, is gaining national recognition and serving as an inspiration for aspiring female footballers. Representing Phalaborwa, the team showcases a blend of skill, determination, and passion for football.
Victoria Magomane, the founder of Sealene Ladies Football Club, shared her motivation for forming the team, emphasising her desire to empower young women and make a positive impact in their lives.
“I love football and sports in general. My dream is to see my team competing nationally. In a world where football is male-dominated, I want to make a difference for our young girls. I am proud that my team is now participating in the Sasol League. We come from far and we are still going far. We aim to put Phalaborwa on the map,” she said. Established in the 2016/17 season, Sealene Ladies Football Club initially played under Safa Ba-Phalaborwa LFA.
They achieved promotion to the Mopani Women’s League in the 2018/19 season and subsequently to the Sasol Women’s League in Limpopo in 2021.
Based in Ga-Makhushane village, the team continues to actively participate and compete and comprises 27 players, aged between 13 and 28.
Magomane outlined plans for the club, which include expanding the team by signing more players and aiming for promotion to the Hollywood Women’s League.
Additionally, they plan to build a clubhouse and team offices to further support their growth and development.
