Hoedspruit 100 delivers another weekend of thrilling cricket
Several matches swung early as disciplined bowling set the tone for a weekend of contrasting results across the fixtures.
HOEDSPRUIT – The Hoedspruit 100 continued to entertain cricket fans during its second week, with another exciting round of fixtures producing dominant bowling performances, explosive batting displays, and competitive contests on Saturday, June 27, and Sunday, June 28.
HSA set the tone early
The weekend began with the Hoedspruit Sports Academy (HSA) first team taking on Conservation Cricketers. After winning the toss, HSA elected to bowl first and immediately took control of the match.
Their disciplined bowling attack restricted Conservation Cricketers to just 83 runs from their allotted 100 balls, putting the batting side under pressure throughout the innings.
HSA first team carried that momentum into their chase, reaching the required target in only 79 balls despite losing five wickets.
The comfortable victory highlighted both the team’s disciplined bowling and composed batting performance.
Serurubele fight back in style
The second match on Saturday saw HSA second team face Serurubele Development.
Batting first after winning the toss, HSA posted a competitive total of 125 runs from their 100 balls.
However, Serurubele Development produced an excellent batting display, chasing down the target in just 90 balls while losing only three wickets to secure an impressive victory.
Mixed fortunes on Sunday
Sunday’s fixtures provided more exciting cricket. HSA Octopi Cubs elected to bat first against Phalaborwa XI but found scoring difficult against a disciplined bowling attack.
They were bowled out for just 66 runs, leaving Phalaborwa XI with a manageable target.
The visitors completed the chase comfortably in only 49 balls while losing four wickets.
Black Mambas dominate high-scoring clash
The final match of the weekend saw Team 11 take on the Black Mambas.
After winning the toss and choosing to field, Team 11 was made to pay as the Black Mambas produced the highest total of the weekend. Their batters combined brilliantly to post an imposing 159 runs from their 100 balls.
Team 11 responded with determination but ultimately fell 30 runs short, giving the Black Mambas a deserved victory after an outstanding all-around performance.
Individual performances also stole the spotlight during week two.
Phalaborwa XI’s Kunene Nkuna emerged as the leading bowler of the weekend, claiming an outstanding 11 wickets while conceding only 25 runs across two matches. His accuracy and consistency played a crucial role in his team’s success.

With the bat, Hein Groenewald of HSA second team produced a remarkable display of power hitting, accumulating 142 runs from just 51 balls over two matches. His fearless stroke play made him the tournament’s standout batter for the weekend.
Tournament continues to grow
HSA organiser Mickey Buyst said the tournament continues to showcase the growing standard of cricket in the region.
“The second week once again showed exactly what the Hoedspruit 100 is about. We saw quality cricket across all four matches, with players stepping up and producing outstanding individual performances.
“It’s encouraging to see the competitive spirit between the teams, while the support from spectators continues to grow. The tournament is creating a great platform for players to develop,” said Buyst.
