Horror accident kills ten

Ten people have died after they were mowed down by a van on Saturday night. Ten others were injured in the accident that took place in Nkambuka Village on the old Constantia road.

Ten others were injured in the accident that took place in Nkambuka Village on the old Constantia road.

According to ER24, witnesses on scene said a group of people were carving up the carcass of a hippopotamus which had died after being hit by a truck earlier the evening.

Upon their arrival on the scene, ER24 and Limpopo Emergency Medical Services found the wreck of a vehicle some distance from the scene. On assessment of the scene they found eight people had sustained fatal injuries.

Twelve others were found with injuries ranging from moderate to critical. They were taken to Letaba and Van Velden Hospital for treatment. Two people died in hospital on Sunday.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Hlungwani Mulaudzi, all victims have been identified. The driver of the van has been discharged from hospital and four others are still receiving treatment.

According to Mulaudzi a warning statement has been obtained and the police are waiting for the National Prosecuting Authority’s directives.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
