Stanfordians participate in annual sports derby

Stanford Lake College participated in the annual sports derby played against St Dunstans in Benoni over the past weekend.

Some intense games of Rugby were played and the following results were achieved: U/15s won 14-12; 2nd Team won 47-3; 1st team lost 14-15

The hockey girls results are as follows: 1st drew 1 – 1; 2nds won 5 – 1; U/15 won 10 – 0; U/14 won 1 – 0.

The hockey boys did not disappoint as well: 1sts drew 1 – 1; 2nds won 3 – 0; U/15 won 1 – 0.

These results reflect an exceptional display of hockey over the weekend, in which Stanford Lake College’s Hockey teams were unbeaten against St Dunstans.

Both 1st teams were unlucky not to win their games, the draws being a result of inconsistent play at times and failing to take the opportunities created.

The netball teams also showed off their skills.

SLC said it is always a fantastic experience playing netball against a school like St Dunstans.

It gives them the opportunity to expose their players to an exceptionally high level of netball and walk away with new tactical ideas.

The girls played some good netball and showed determination throughout the fixtures.

The team of the weekend was most definitely the U/15A team who were victorious, winning 24 – 8.

Unfortunately, the other teams lost their matches; however, the experience gained was definitely worth the ‘loss’.

U/14s lost 16-5, U/15 B lost 16-8, the 2nd team lost 24-17 and the 1st team lost 44-17.

The chess and debating teams both won easily, with the chess players only losing one of their six games to win 5-1.

Very well done!

In the tennis category they were beaten as well, although the mixed doubles games were closely contested.
