Nine suspects arrested for attempted murder and robbery

Police in Tzaneen have arrested nine suspects for attempted murder and armed robbery on Tuesday, September 27.

It is alleged that on Tuesday afternoon a fight broke out at the Tzaneen Boxer parking area notorious for illegal gambling. A group of nine men ganged up against another man, 29-year-old Jack Malatji from Topanama village. They chased him and allegedly repeatedly stabbed him and took about R3000 from him.

It is further alleged that the victim ran and fell in front of Spar Tops with visible open wounds on the back of the head and his back. The victim was transported to the nearest hospital by an ambulance in critical condition. The community and the police comprising the tracing unit, dog Unit, Vispol, detectives and security companies, CPF, CSF, and neighbourhood watch joined forces to search for the suspects.

Following a tip-off from a member of the public, all nine suspects were apprehended at different locations in the CBD including the Letaba River. The suspects between the ages of 15 and 32 are in police custody and an investigation is still underway. The armed robbery charge is robbery without a firearm.
