Limpopo police urge calm after Shawela murder

Provincial police commissioner Thembi Hadebe has called for calm in Shawela after protests erupted over the murder of a local woman.

LIMPOPO – The provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has appealed for calm in Shawela Village near Giyani following protests early this morning (Monday, August 18).

The demonstrations erupted after residents blocked roads in response to the stabbing of a woman, allegedly by her boyfriend, yesterday. The suspect fled immediately after the incident, igniting outrage and tension within the community.

Hadebe acknowledged the community’s grief and anger but stressed that unlawful behaviour would not be tolerated. She urged residents to allow police to carry out their work without interference.

“We have already established a dedicated task team to track down the suspect, and his arrest is imminent,” she confirmed.
