Shamfana triumphs at the People’s Cup Tournament

Shamfana village become the new champions of the People's Cup tournament after defeating Ramotshinyadi village 5-4 at the penalties over the weekend.

The champions walked with a new kit, gold medals, R12 000 and a charity check of R5 000 to donate to their primary school.
The defending champions, Boqa village was knocked out on the semi finals by Shamfana village, which they also won on the penalties.
“I feel happy that we became the new champions for the People’s Cup tournament. It was a great tournament, the boys played very well and they gave their all throughout the tournament.
My aim and the aim for the team is that we are looking forward to keep winning the tournaments and to inspire the dignity of our village,” said Sidney Manyama, Shamfana village coach.

Teams that proceeded to the semi-finals were Shamfana, Mokgwathi, Ramotshinyadi, and Boqa.
However, due to bad weather and heavy rainfall the People’s Cup Facebook page posted that the tournament would be postponed until Sunday, April 17. On Sunday, after seeing that the weather had not improved, the People’s Cup posted that an update would be made as soon as there was a clear decision taken at a meeting that was held by the management on the semi-finals, and the decision was made that it would continue on Sunday, May 1.
The first semi-final game was between Boqa village, the defending champions and the new champions, Shamfana village. The second semi-final game was between Ramotshinyadi and Mokgwathi where Ramotshinyadi won with a 6-1, full time score.

Eight villages participated in the tournament. They are Boqa, Ramotshinyadi, Daniel Rababalela, Lekgwareng, Mokgwathi, Mohlele, Shamfana, and Rajeke.
The tournament was hosted at Lekgwareng village. In the first game on Friday Shamfana village won 2-1 against Rajeke village.
Mokgwathi village and Daniel Rababalela village played 0-0 full-time and went to a penalty shoot-out where Mokgwathi won by 8 goals to 7 for Daniel Rababale.
Boqa won 4-1 against Mohlele and Ramotshinyadi won by 4-3 on a penalty shoot-out against Lekgwareng. People’s cup overall top goal score, Benio 5 ( Boqa), Dk7 Mashatole (Ramotshinyadi), Dk7 kantoro ( Shamfana) Shaya (Shamfana),Sjovi (Ramotshinyadi).
