Family fun at Lowveld trail run

More than 130 of Hoedspruit’s runners enjoyed an early morning trail run during the second leg of the Pam Golding Wildlife Estate trail running series that took place at Zandspruit Estate on May 7.

In the 5km race, 94 runners lined up at the start and Ralph Sekgobela took the first place in a time of 26:42. He also takes first place in the boys’ u/16 category. Thato Maleka and Malwanda Ndlovu took second and third place in the 5km race.

Maleka finished the trail run in 26:57 to take the open men’s category win. Ndlovu completed the trail run at 27:02. Jorja Harwood was the first female over the finish line in the 5km race and she wins the girls u/16 category with her time of 32:03.

Mfundo Mkhonto and Kate Lownie take second and third place, respectively. Mkhonto completes the 5km trail run in 32:63. Lownie completes the race in 33:05. In the 10km trail run Robin Cook took first place in a time of 46:49 and wins the open men category with this time.

Harm Bouwknegt took the overall second position and wins the grand master category with his time of 53:28. Lorenz Penkler takes the third spot on the podium and wins the men’s veteran category with his finish time of 54:36. Denise Steinman is the first woman across the finish line in the 10km trail run. she also wins the open female category with her time of 55:45.

Jessica Osmers takes second place with a time of 1:00:40. Kate van Aardweg is third in the women’s category and completes the 10km trail run in a time of 1:02:58. Tim Robinson wins the 20km trail run in a time of 1:21:40.

Veteran, Lucas Moremi ensures second place with a time of 1:22:21. Hector Matsiye took third place overall and second place in the open men’s category. He finishes the 20km trail run at a time of 1:31:56.

Taryn-Maie Wille is the first woman to cross the finish line in the 20km trail run and completes the route in 1:47:29 to win the women’s open category. Georgina Muirhead takes second place in the 20km trail run with a time of 1:56:52. Linda Prinsloo takes third place in a time of 2:04:12. Online entries for the next leg of the Lowveld Trail Running series are already open and will take place at the Elephant Rock Eco Estate on June 4.

Elephant Rock Eco Estate is a new addition to the trail running events of Lowveld Trail Running and will be the third installment of the Wildlife Estate Series. The estate covers 240 ha of unspoiled land supporting a diversity of riverine fauna and flora and this new venue promises to be a great addition to the series. Online entries close on June 2.

Registration will take place in the Pam Golding Office at the Rock Fig Lifestyle Center on June 3 from 09:00 until 16:30.
