Neill takes top spot at trail running series

Local trail runner, Neill Kelder took the top honours at the Pam Golding 2022 Lowveld Trail Running Wildlife Estate Series last weekend.

The series came to an end on July 31 when local runners took on the final challenge on the trails at Blyde Wildlife Estate (BWE). Kelder completed the BWE 20km trail run in 2:09:38. He completed the 20km trail run in all four stages of the series in a total time of 7:40:15. He competed in the men’s veteran division. In the 20km trail, Aloise Mdhlovu took the overall first place completing the route at 1:38:01.

Daniel Mongwe took overall second place and Linda Prinsloo took first place in the open women’s division. Linda Prinsloo, in the women’s open division, completed all four stages of the series in a total time of 8:04:51. Terry O’Connor, in the men’s master the division completed all four stages of the series in a total time of 11:19:58. In the 10km trail run, Henning Shroder took first place in the men’s open division
with a time of 57:31 followed by MJ du Preez.

Du Preez completed the race in 58:03. Denise Steinmann won the women’s open division, completing the race in 59:17. Lorenz Penkler, Denise and Christiaan Steinmann, Jessica Osmers, Nicholas Naylor, Tania Steyn, and Stefan and Ané Lombard all completed all four stages of the 10km trail running series. Penkler completed the series in a total time of 3:50:44, followed closely by Denis and Christiaan, who completed the series in total times of 3:5044 and 3:53:09, respectively.

Close to a hundred runners completed the 5km trail run with Tyler Rance winning the race in a time of 25:18. Malwanda Ndlovu and Courtney Jamnik took second and third place completing the race in 25:18 and 25:35, respectively. Julia Page was the first woman to cross the finish line, completing the 5km trail in 30:35. Malwanda Ndlovu completed all four stages of the 5km trail running series in a total time of 1:39:26. Harry Stamper and Courtney Jamnik completed the series in total times of 1:42:50 and 1:48:01, respectively.

Alexander Harwood, Joja Harwood, Kate Lownie, Mfundo Mkhonto, Jordan Prinsloo, Nicole Fiolet, Joshua Haines, Ilana Smith, Emily Haines, Brian Smit, Stephan Moller, Nicola Haines, Ilia Papadopoulos, and Lanice Liebenberg also completed all four stages of the 5km trail running series.
