Hitting runs is in Mboweni’s blood
Limpopo Impala Cricket Club player and Lulekani-born and raised Nhlamulo Mboweni will be representing the province in the South African Inland Rural Cricket team.
He was selected together with his teammates, Nyiko Shikwambana and Sias Willemse, and coach Issac Senatla. Mboweni says he feels honoured to have been chosen to be part of the tournament, which the date and venue are yet to be announced. The 23-year-old started playing in 2011 as a hobby as he wanted to get out of the house where he was outnumbered by his sisters.
He was noticed by coaches such as Ntsako Sono and Freedom Chauke who had a big impact on his early career and made sure he was equipped with the necessary skills. He went on to represent the province in school tournaments until he was selected for the Impalas. He is also a University of Limpopo student and participates in varsity cricket.

Recently he was awarded batsman of the tournament at a student tournament in George. During the tournament, he accumulated 508 runs in seven games with the highest score of 132 runs and an average of 127 runs.
The top-order batsman says cricket has taught him discipline and prevented him from getting involved in social ills. “Cricket has given me a reason to live, it demands that I am disciplined, and I plan my life accordingly. “I encourage youngsters to take advantage of the different sports opportunities available at school and in the community because it can change your life for the better.”
