Mopani netball teams unite for cancer

Eight Mopani teams compete in the Impala Netball Tournament to raise funds and awareness for cancer research and support.

LIMPOPO – Eight teams from across Mopani will battle it out to win the first-ever Impala Netball Tournament.

The event will take place at Impala Park Stadium from 08:00 on Saturday, November 2. Entry is free of charge.

The host and initiator of the games is the Impala Netball Team consisting of Phalaborwa netball players.

Ayonda Ceko told the Herald that they aim to create cancer awareness by hosting the tournament.

Ceko said they will be raising money during the tourney and all proceeds will be donated to cancer causes.

“Players will wear a pink ribbon in support of the cause. Supporting cancer patients is dear to my heart, as I lost a family member to cancer.

“She was unfortunately diagnosed late because of the stigma in our community. Early diagnosis will help to get the right treatment,” she said.

Teams competing are SanParks Netball, Thako Netball, Air Force Base Hoedspruit, Phusela Netball, Vipers Netball, Impala 2 Netball and Phalaborwa Netball team.

For more information on the tournament or if you would like to join the Impalas, contact Ayonda at 064 987 3658.
