Tzaneen runner completes 170km run for charity

George Phakula completes a 170km charity run, raising funds for school uniforms and toiletries for underprivileged learners.

TZANEEN – Local runner and benefactor George Phakula recently completed a 170km run from Mokopane to Muhlava village to raise money for school uniforms and toiletries for learners in his village.

Since 2021, Phakula’s charitable efforts have benefitted over 400 learners, and this year he aims to support 200 more from underprivileged schools in Tzaneen.

Phakula’s run began at Folang Medical Centre and ended at Paledi Mall. Along the way he was accompanied by Comrades runners Nkateko Ndlala, Tiisetso Chuene, Selby Sekgobela, and Rivalani Malangane, with additional runners joining them for a 33km stretch from Mokopane.

On the second day, the run continued from Paledi to Tzaneen Lifestyle Centre. They were joined by Jeffrey Gana at Turfloop and Lungi Mhlongo on the Magoebaskloof road.

The final day saw the runners move from Tzaneen town to the Muhlava Tribal Office, with local runners joining them.

Phakula appeals to businesses and residents to assist by donating school uniforms, such as shoes, shirts, and trousers, instead of cash. For more information, contact Phakula at 076 275 0036.
