Tzaneen Bowls Club gears up for tourneys

Tzaneen Bowls Club gears up for the annual Tzaneen Classic on April 26–27, with 28 teams competing, including regulars from Zimbabwe.

TZANEEN – The Tzaneen Bowls Club (TBC) is preparing for its highly anticipated annual Tzaneen Classic, scheduled for April 26 and 27.

“We’re fully booked, with teams coming from all across South Africa, as well as three teams from Zimbabwe. These Zimbabwean teams have participated in our competition every year. In total, 28 teams will compete in seven games over the weekend,” said Ernst Swiglaar, president of the TBC.

The main sponsor for the tournament is ERF Fire Solutions from the East Rand, with additional support from Smith & Kie and other smaller sponsors.

Each team’s entry fee is R1 800, and the prize money is as follows: R12 000 for first place, R6 000 for second, and R3 000 for third.

In addition to the Tzaneen Classic, the club continues to host its monthly Tzaneen Pears competition, which takes place on the first Saturday of every month. The next Pears competition is set for May 3, and the current jackpot stands at R1 320. Sarie and Stoffel Vermaak are currently leading the Pears.

This fun, fast-paced event consists of two games and is almost always fully booked.

“We at the Tzaneen Bowls Club are excited and eager to welcome more participants,” added Swiglaar.
