Frans du Toit rugby team ends season proudly

Frans du Toit High School's rugby team ends their Noordvaal Division 3 run after a semi-final loss but celebrates a proud season.

PHALABORWA – Although the Frans du Toit High School’s first rugby team’s hopes of becoming Noordvaal Division 3 champions came to an end, the players remain proud of their journey this season.

On Saturday, August 16, the team faced Vryburg High School in the semi-finals and were defeated 24–7. Vryburg, the reigning champions of the league in the North West, proved too strong, but Frans du Toit walked away with heads held high.

“This marks the end of the road for our team this season, and more bittersweet, it was the final time our matric boys played together for the school,” said Sean Knoetze, sports organiser and assistant coach. “They fought hard, played with passion, and left everything on the field. It was a truly great season, one to be proud of.”

Knoetze also expressed gratitude to the coaching staff, Daniel Bester, Arra Cronje, and Danie Besselaar, whose leadership and commitment, he said, made all the difference.

He further thanked the team’s sponsors for their unwavering support throughout the campaign.

“Without you, none of this would’ve been possible. Rest well, boys, you’ve earned it. And to the juniors coming up next year: it’s your turn to carry the torch. We’ll be back, stronger, united, and ready,” he added.

Frans du Toit earned their place in the Noordvaal league after being crowned Limpopo Division 3 champions with a commanding 62–0 victory over Louis Trichardt High School on Saturday, July 26, at the Fransies sports field.

Looking ahead, Knoetze confirmed that the team will soon shift their focus to the upcoming sevens rugby challenges.
