SCS swimmer earns Limpopo colours

Gr 7 learner Ilia Papadopoulos earns his provincial colours and will compete at the 2025 inter-provincial swimming gala.

HOEDSPRUIT – Southern Cross Schools is celebrating the achievement of Gr 7 learner Ilia Papadopoulos, who has been awarded his Limpopo provincial colours for swimming.

This outstanding recognition comes as he has been officially selected to represent the province as part of the Limpopo Aquatics Federation inter-provincial swimming team for 2025.

Ilia will compete at the inter-provincial gala, which takes place on Saturday, August 23, at the Curro Nelspruit Swimming Pool in Nelspruit.

The prestigious gala will bring together top swimmers from across the country, each representing their province at an elite competitive level.

For Ilia, the selection is the culmination of years of effort and dedication in the pool. His coaches and teachers describe him as a focused and hardworking athlete who consistently strives for excellence. “Ilia’s achievement is a reflection of his discipline and the determination he shows both in and out of the water,” Alex Adams of Southern Cross Schools said.

Balancing academics and sport is no easy task, yet Ilia has managed to excel in both. His commitment to training, often involving countless early mornings and long hours in the water, has paid off in the form of this provincial recognition.
