Giyani runners enjoy Mayor’s Race
Giyani runners took part in the Greater Tzaneen Municipality’s Mayor’s Race at the Nkowankowa Stadium on Saturday.
Although it was hot from early on, runners managed to complete the race strong. The Mayor’s Race was presented for the first time in nine years. The winner of the men’s 10 km race was Sfiso Ngcobo of Mbombela Athletics Club with a time of 31:30, followed by Isaack Moshia of Nedbank Club with a time of 31:37, and Ronny Mabotja of Lebowakgomo SAPS.

Mamabolo critisised the lack of water at the water points during the race. Silindile Chili from Nedbank won the women’s 21km race and was equally upset by the lack of water at the water points. “It is challenging to run in hot weather without water, I looked for water everywhere and could not find anything, next time they should improve on that because it is draining for runners.”
Despite the water challenges, the runners enjoyed themselves, including a 2km fun run with youngsters dominating the event. The race was followed by other sporting activities including netball and soccer.
