Happy Boys fc suffers a setback against Mpheni

Giyani Happy Boys suffered another setback after drawing 0-0 with their archrival, Mpheni Home Defenders FC, during their ABC Motsepe League game played on Saturday at Xikukwani Stadium in Giyani.

Mpheni FC beat the Happy Boys by a few points to win the ABC Motsepe League title last season. They advanced to the provincial playoffs, where they also won, but unfortunately were defeated at national level, where they were meant to qualify for the First National Division, which is one step closer to the Premier Soccer League (PSL). With Mpheni FC’s return to the ABC Motsepe League, the Happy Boys found themselves facing their old rivals again.

After losing their first league match against the Vondwe Xi Bullets and sinking to position seven, the Saturday match was vital for Happy Boys to win to keep themselves afloat. The draw was far more damaging to them than it was to Mpheni FC who had six points from two previous matches. This is a terrible start for a team that finished second in the ABC Motsepe League last year.

If their team manager, Eric Mabasa, does not keep an eye on things, the team could go from bad to worse, especially now that the draw dropped them to the bottom of the log while other teams, including Mpheni FC, their main contender, moved up the log. However, when compared to their opponent, their performance was not bad, especially when playing against a team that is used to playing at the PSL level.

Their performance against Mpheni FC on Saturday was also equally matched with Mpheni taking the lead at times. Meanwhile, another Giyani team that rivals the Happy Boys, Emanuel FC, has won its third game in the ABC Motsepe League after beating Maruleng Celtic 1-0 in a match that was played at Malamulele Stadium on Saturday. This moved Emanuel FC into second place in the league with seven points from three games, just two goals behind Mpheni Home Defenders, who also have seven points from three games.
