Months of training culminated in a final group run as athletes made their final preparations.

TZANEEN – The Tzaneen Marathon Club completed their final 5km training run on Saturday, June 6, as part of preparations for the Comrades Marathon this weekend.

The route stretched from Ben Vorster High School to the bridge on the way to George’s Valley. After the run, athletes gathered at Plato Coffee Shop, where veteran runner Minkie Elf, who has completed the Comrades Marathon 10 times, shared advice and insights with the group.

This year, the club will be represented by 14 runners: Irvin Chauque, Chandre Heyns, Johannes Human, Danie le Roux, Celia Loubser, Shin Mabunda, Solomon Mabunda, Ntswaki Makgoba, Nyakallo Masedi, Amon Mboweni, Busisiwe Nyabana, JJ Pelser, Selaelo Sekoto and Cor van Heyningen.

Nyabana, who will be taking part in her sixth Comrades, said the team is well prepared and wished all her teammates success ahead of race day.

Van Heyningen will be running his 18th race and will also serve as a pacer for the 10-hour bus, helping athletes aiming to finish within that time. He said he is well prepared and looking forward to the race on Sunday.
