LIMPOPO – Eighteen-year-old Murisi Rikhotso from Section F in Giyani has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in South African cricket after being named bowler of the tournament at a prestigious u/19 cricket tournament, which brought together provincial teams from across the country.

A well-earned call-up

Her exceptional performances with the ball did not go unnoticed, as she was subsequently selected to represent the South African Schools team in a one-day match during the tournament.

Eight years in the making

Rikhotso’s journey to national recognition has been built on years of dedication and hard work. She began playing cricket at a young age and has now spent approximately eight years honing her craft.

Her rise through the ranks is a testament to her unwavering commitment to the sport and her continuous desire to improve.

Selectors keeping a close eye

Her impressive performances have opened doors to even greater opportunities. She revealed that national selectors have indicated they will continue monitoring her progress closely.

“I was told by the coaches that they would continue monitoring my performances and that, if I maintain my current standard, I could be selected to play for the South Africa u/19 team. I believe that is possible because I have confidence in my abilities and performances, and I continue to produce,” she said.

Her confidence is well-founded, given the remarkable impact she has made on the national stage.

Competing against the best young cricketers from all nine provinces, Rikhotso stood out as a bowler of exceptional quality, consistently troubling batters with her accuracy, variations, and ability to take crucial wickets at key moments.

Her selection for the South African schools’ team further validates her status as one of the country’s most promising young talents.

“Good things do not come easily. I did not achieve this overnight. I started playing cricket when I was young, and I have now been playing for about eight years. Even now, I am still learning and improving,” she said.

Rikhotso advised young people not to give up on their dreams, but to keep pushing until they achieve their goals.

“Once you have set your mind on a goal, pursue it with passion and give it your best effort. Stay patient, remain committed, and continue working hard. With dedication and perseverance, success will eventually follow,” she added.
