New to cricket? Tzaneen Tigers Ladies team welcomes beginners

Formed last year, the friendly Tzaneen side is growing its squad for a T20 league from October, and women and girls of every age and skill level are welcome.

TZANEEN – Tzaneen Tigers Ladies Cricket is calling on women and girls of all ages and skill levels to join the growing side as it prepares to enter a T20 league against surrounding clubs from October.

The team, which was established last year, is working to build a strong and welcoming women’s cricket community in Tzaneen and is encouraging beginners and experienced players alike to get involved.

Weekly cricket training for all skill levels

The Tigers hold practice sessions every Wednesday from 18:00 to 19:00 at the Ben Vorster Secondary School cricket nets.

According to the team, there are currently no players who consider themselves experts, making the club an accessible environment for newcomers who may have little or no previous cricket experience.

“We started last year, so there are not really any experts,” the team said.

The players describe their weekly practices as a friendly and enjoyable experience, with members supporting one another as they develop their skills and understanding of the game.

Tigers prepare for a busier cricket season

The team has already gained some match experience, having played one match last year. Although the Tigers suffered a heavy defeat, the experience provided the players with an opportunity to test themselves and gain valuable exposure to competitive cricket.

The team is now preparing for a more active season, with matches expected to be played on weekends at different venues in Tzaneen, Polokwane and Phalaborwa.

Players wanted ahead of T20 league

With the T20 league approaching, the Tigers are particularly looking to increase their player numbers and strengthen the squad.

The club is inviting women who love sport, want to learn cricket or are simply looking for a friendly team environment to attend the Wednesday training sessions.
