SLC in nationals
On the weekend of October 3 to 5 the Spur Schools' MTB Nationals was held at Bekker High School near Magaliesberg.
On the weekend of October 3 to 5 the Spur Schools’ MTB Nationals was held at Bekker High School near Magaliesberg.
The event consisted of three races, two on Saturday and one on Sunday. This year saw the largest field yet with all nine provinces being represented.
Limpopo was represented by Louis Trichardt High School and Stanford Lake College with Stanford Lake College taking up 6 spots in the provincial team. The riders were: U/19 – Abigail Joubert; U/16 – Lachlan Truesdale & Rebecca Desmet; U/15 – Kirsten Eastes, Bryce Reed & Matthew Wilkinson. Saturday morning was the Inter Schools’ Final where riders raced to accumulate points for their school. Saturday afternoon there was a Fun Relay race with schools entering teams of 5 riders, each doing one lap.
Saturday evening the Gala dinner and prize giving for the National Schools’ series was held.
Due to being only a small team, Stanford Lake College could not compete with the other schools, but Abigail managed a 16th place and Kirsten an astonishing 7th place. Then Sunday saw the Inter Provincial race where riders raced in their provincial colours. All the Stanford Lake College riders managed to finish in the top 40 positions in their respective age categories, with Kirsten finishing in 7th place again.
We are proud of our team for holding the Stanford name high during the 2014 MTB season. Well done to everyone!
