Gabbi placed first in South Africa

Equestrians from Merensky Agricultural Academy recently took part in national competitions at various venues.

At the Western Performance and Reigning Horse Nationals Circuit and SANESA Nationals, Natalie dos Ramos achieved four first places and is the Youth Level 1 highest scorer. Gabbi de Carvalho achieved seven first places in these competitions. She achieved the highest points for reining (386), as well as the highest points for ranch versatility (578).

Carvalho and both her horses are currently placed first in South Africa. During the South African Western Mounted Games Association and SANESA nationals, Diné Booyse achieved second place at the SANESA high school junior newcomer’s division and was named the overall South African national champion at the SAWMGA, level 0. Danica Coetzee received a certificate for inclusion in the SAWMGA confederation team as well as the trophy for the best SANESA high school rider at level 4. AJ van der Westhuizen received the award as the best high school rider in Limpopo.

This award is only made to grade 12 riders. He also received recognition for his participation in the Limpopo equestrian confederation team. Janelle van Staden took second place in the first round of show jumping and third place in the second phase of the competition. She took fifth place in the dressage competition and took second place in the equitation competition. Tayla von Pannier competed in the SANESA Western Mounted Games competition and took ninth place in poles, sixth place in keyhole, and ninth place in bi-range.

She also competed in the open section to take 12th place in poles, 11th place in keyhole, and ninth place in bi-range. In the SANESA schools’ division Laila le Roux took fourth place and Booyse took second place in the level 0 division. Minandi Schalekamp took 11th place and Danica Coetzee 27th place in the level 4 division.

Minette Wolmarans competed in the level 5 division and took 26th place and Van der Westhuizen competed in the level 7 division to take 16th place. In the SAWMGA open competition, Booyse took first place in the level 0 division and HJ van Wyk took 15th place. Schalekamp took 15th place in the level 2 division with Coetzee in 27th place and Anya Beukes in 35th place. Wolmarans took 53rd place in the level 3 division and Van der Westhuizen took 35th place in the level 4 division.
