Update: Drugs worth R12mil. confiscated
Keagan Dexter Murphy (26) from Midrand appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court.
Murphy was arrested on the N4 in June 2012 after police acted on information.
When the Ford Territory he was travelling in was searched, hidden built-in compartments were allegedly discovered next to the chassis.
Inside were 33,9 kilogrammes of crystal methamphetamine worth and estimated R12 million. It is also alleged that Murphy offered a police officer R50 000 in return for the vehicle and his freedom.
A year later, in June 2013, he pleaded not guilty to charges of dealing in drugs and for contravening the Act against corruption.
Murphy was released on R50 000 bail with conditions that he report to authorities regularly and not leave the Midrand area.
The Ford Territory was forfeited to the state in May 2013 to be used by the Endangered Species unit under the Organised Crime branch. This after the owner of the vehicle, Kabelo Motjuoadi, could not be traced.

In a statement made on 3 June 2012 and handed in as an exhibit at court, Murphy says that he was en
route to Gauteng when he was pulled over. He said that he worked as a driver for a man only known to him as Kabelo from K K Travels.
He was asked to travel to Mozambique and hand the vehicle to an unknown person.
After waiting about an hour, the vehicle was handed back to him and he returned to Gauteng to give the car back to its owner.
He denied offering a bribe to a police officer.
In a separate statement taken down by a police officer, Murphy claimed that he received R10 000 to do a trip to Mozambique.
He said that he traveled to the country and back often, sometimes up to three times a month.
He also admitted going to Capetown at least seven or eight times.
The case has been postponed until August for trial.
