Update: Bestiality case taken from roll

The bestiality case against a young man who was arrested in Doornkop earlier this year, was provisionally removed from the roll pending the outcome of DNA.

Tshepo Utla (20) was arrested on 23 January after neighbours called the police and stated that they found a man next to a dead four month old puppy.

A condom, which was apparently still over the suspect’s penis when he was found, was sent to the police forensic department for DNA testing. A post mortem was also done on the dog and a report was given to the SPCA and police.

Utla briefly appeared in court on Wednesday. He is charged under the Sexual Offences Act for bestiality and under the Animal Protection Act for torturing of an animal.

The case was removed from the roll pending the outcome of DNA.

• A woman called the Observer and stated that Utla’s surname is in fact Masilela. Inquiries were made to the court, but according to fingerprint records, he is definitely Utla.
