Crime wave over town

There seems to be no end to a crime wave over Middelburg during the past couple of weeks which encompassed everything from a kidnapping, to hijackings and multiple house burglaries.

Last week we reported on a brutal house robbery in which home owners were severely assaulted, several house burglaries and a shoot-out involving suspects driving a stolen car.

There was also a hijacking in Mhluzi in which the victim was dumped in a hole in the ground at Doornkop and was fortunate to survive. The night before there was another hijacking also in Mhluzi.

Police also recovered a stolen vehicle on the Loskop road which led to the discovery that a house was burgled into.

Middelburg SAPS spokesperson Captain Khanyisile Zwane said this week that one hijacking suspect was arrested and that police were following leads into other cases.

“We’re up in arms about the recent spike, although crime is not out of control as yet. We thank community sub crime forums for visibility in their areas of residence, the quick response to call outs and the healthy relationship we have when we work together. We also want to urge community members not to take the law into their own hands as this will only put you and your family in more danger”.
