Body found one week after accident

The body of a man who was involved in a car accident on the Bethal road and mysteriously vanished nearly two weeks ago, was found last week floating in a trench of water at Black Wattle Colliery.

According to reports, Burgersfort resident Christopher Makofane was in an accident in which the car he was travelling in rolled multiple times.

He survived the incident and when police arrived he provided them with all his personal information as well as details of the accident.

Just minutes later he was talking on his cellphone and wandered off – oblivious to the fact that he was metres away from a long trench filled with water alongside Black Wattle Colliery.

He slipped and fell inside but no one noticed and after searching for him for hours it was assumed that he had fled the scene.

Last week a passerby noticed a body floating in the water and notified the police, who upon arrival were able to establish that it was the same man involved in an accident a week earlier.

The deceased died of drowning and his body has since been transported to Burgersfort to his family.

Police search and rescue teams recovered the body from a trench next to the road.
