A 50-year-old man has been admitted to hospital under police guard for an apparent overdose after allegedly killing his lover in Norkem Park, Kempton Park in Gauteng.

Well-known Afrikaans soapie 7de Laan, released a statement this afternoon, squashing rumours that the actor is part of the current cast.

According to Norkem Park SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Barbara-Anne Ferreira, when police arrived at the house, they discovered the body of a 29-year-old man in a cottage on the property.

“The suspect was still on the scene and found in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“He was arrested and taken to Tembisa Hospital after it was found he had taken an overdose of tablets.

“Once recovered he will be charged with murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm,” says Ferreira.

It is believed the suspect was an actor who featured in a number of South African soap operas.

Ferreira says the motive behind the murder will form part of a detailed police investigation.

The suspect will appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court after he has recovered from his suicide attempt.
