Jannie Prinsloo, Special Operations Manager at the Middelburg Mall has warned that the mall management has taken a zero tolerance stance against negligent parents who leave their infants and toddlers unattended in vehicles.

“The next time this happens we will be opening a criminal case,” he says.

This after a baby estimated to be little over a year old, had to be broken out of a vehicle on Friday.

“Luckily the baby was spotted by two teenage girls who happened to pass the car. A bystander broke the window to get to the baby.”

The child was rushed to the Dischem clinic to be checked out.

“We kept on announcing over the intercom that the parents must return to their vehicle. They only showed up 35 minutes later.”

The parents were warned but Mr Prinsloo says that given that this is the third time a baby had to be rescued in little more than a month, they have decided to take more drastic steps against parents in future.
