Update: Acid attacker denied bail
Alleged acid attacker, Euphemia Sethema (34), from Tokologo in Mhluzi, was denied bail on Thursday.
The accused was arrested early in July for allegedly throwing acid on Linah Sesy Skhosana (27) leaving her maimed for life in what seemed to be a love triangle.
Sethema appeared before Magistrate Thandi Mkari in C court where she was denied bail. Her case was postponed to 27 August, where her regional court date will be given.
The attack took place in Aerorand while Skhosana was doing laundry. Skhosana ran into the house where a bottle of acid was thrown into her face.
During an interview with Sethema, she told the Observer that the man at the centre of the drama was an abusive womanizer.
Sethema has two boys with the man.
The victim remains in a critical condition at the Middelburg Hospital with serious injuries to her eyes, breasts and left arm.
Before the attack in Aerorand, Ms Skhosana was also attacked at Wimpy, where she has worked the past seven years.
Mrs Andrea Buitendag (from Wimpy), recalls how Sethema came into the restaurant and assaulted Skhosana. The police were called and Sethema fled the scene.
The news of her attack devastated staff and management.
“Linah Skhosana was off the previous day. When she did not report for duty on 9 July, the family informed us about the horrible attack. We tried not to tell the staff immediately, but when they heard, everyone was hysterical. I remember we had to calm everyone down and managers had to serve the customers. It’s sad that a life is destroyed due to a love triangle. She was so close to my heart, she was like one of my children. We miss her dearly,” Mrs Buitendag said.
“I can assure her, her job is safe, we wish her a speedy recovery.”
