These pigs don’t rock
The Middelburg SPCA wants to take hands with the councillor of Rockdale regarding a serious problem with stray pigs in the field at the back of Rockdale.
Senior Inspector Petro Oberholzer (Manager Middelburg SPCA) said that the animals live in squalor.
The water they are drinking is contaminated with sewage. The problem has its origin of raw sewage running into the water stream where they are drinking water.
Their food is also contaminated, as the sewage water is used in the preparing of their food.
On her arrival she also had to euthanize one of the pigs because it was covered with mange, and could not walk because it was malnourished.
Most of the animals had mange and it was clear that old car oil was rubbed onto the animals’ skin in an effort to combat the disease.
Inspector Oberholzer said that this method does not help and that animals need medication when they have mange.
